Selime Monastery

Selime Monastery is the largest rock-cut religious complex in Cappadocia, located at the end of the Ihlara Valley. This impressive structure includes a cathedral-sized church, monk rooms, tunnels and defensive areas. Carved entirely into volcanic tuff, the monastery served as a center for religious education and communal life. Its elevated position offers panoramic views of the valley while showcasing architectural elements from the Roman, Byzantine and Seljuk periods. The vast interior spaces and intricate carvings make Selime Monastery one of the most fascinating historical sites in Cappadocia, combining natural beauty with deep cultural heritage.
